Exciting Future – Logan Is Looking Good

Logan City is a young and vibrant city, and one of the largest and fastest growing in Queensland. With a population of more than 265,000 people and an existing business base of more than 21,000 businesses, the city is part of the exciting growth corridor taking shape in South East Queensland.

The city’s population is expected to grow by more than 200,000 over the next 20 years with several suburbs earmarked for high population growth, significant investment in new industry and potentially leading models for master planned communities.

In an effort to carefully manage growth and major developments within Logan City, Logan City Council has established a Major Projects Program, known as New Cities, which will be responsible for overseeing major development areas within Logan, including Yarrabilba and Flagstone. The program will be responsible for producing planning, infrastructure and funding options to manage major development effectively. More than $20 billion in new residential and township developments are planned or under way in the city.

The local economy, worth $13.58 billion, is largely centred around the manufacturing, construction, property and business services and retail sectors and boasts a large contingent of home-based businesses. A number of other key industries are emerging as well, such as health and wellbeing industries, creative industries, sustainable industries, and education, tourism and lifestyles industries


A progressive city

Logan City expanded significantly in March 2008 with the inclusion of areas from the Gold Coast City area and the former Beaudesert Shire. In addition to boosting the population, these changes have diversified the city’s economic and cultural base.

The new Logan City covers 957 square kilometres and is conveniently located between Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Redland City, Ipswich and the Scenic Rim.

Extending west, the new city includes the northern urban sector of the former Beaudesert Shire, including Cedar Grove and Cedar Vale, Jimboomba, Greater Flagstone, Yarrabilba and Logan Village. The area is a destination for professionals and home-based businesses as well as a gateway to the huge industrial developments planned at Bromelton, in the Scenic Rim, in the future.

Newly-included areas to the south include Beenleigh, which has strong local business networks and a strong sense of community. A number of Queensland’s leading firms are based in this region. Beenleigh is seen as a business service centre, not only for the Yatala industrial area to the south, but also as a valuable economic district within Logan City.

There is also a wide range of exciting elements to the “old” Logan, some of which include Springwood as a key centre for commercial, retail and lifestyles services, SouthWest 1 as a prime location for advanced manufacturing and knowledge based industries, and commercial, industrial and retail opportunities in the areas of Logan Central, Browns Plains, Loganholme and Meadowbrook, to name a few.
